Biography
Stephen Malkmus of Pavement fame also is a share of rock band The Silver Jews, along with poet/lyricist David Berman, and is presently pursuing the solo career backed by musical band The Jicks (J of Jagger minus "M" of Mick). Malkmus followed around his father's footsteps by attending a University of Virginia. Malkmus was sleep in Stockton, California during the 1980's when Pavement formed, and rode his way to success (in a manner of speaking) fronting the seminal "slacker rock" indie band. Their debut album, Slanted & Enchanted was released to critical acclaim, and the band continued to receive attention for subsequent releases. Pavement, & Malkmus particularly, wwhen hailed as spearheading a underground indie movement of the 1990's. Pavement, along by owning band Sebadoh, was anointed as a pioneer of the lo-fi sound. Inside 2001, following a 1999 dissolution of the band, Malkmus released his 1st self-titled solo album. Malkmus presently lives inside Portland, Oregon with his partner, artist Jessica Jackson Hutchins. Within 2005, Hutchins gave birth to the couple's 1st tyke, the girl known as Lottie.
